About Madrona
Known for its historic homes, tree-lined streets, and beautiful views of Lake Washington, Madrona was first settled in the late 1800s and was initially a vacation spot for Seattle residents looking to escape the city. The neighborhood was named after the Madrona tree, which is native to the Pacific Northwest and can be found throughout the area.
In the early 1900s, the neighborhood began to grow and develop as a residential community. Many of the homes built during this time were large, stately homes that were popular with Seattle’s upper class.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Madrona, like many urban neighborhoods, experienced a decline. Many of the larger homes were subdivided into apartments, and the area became more affordable and diverse.
In recent years, Madrona has experienced a resurgence. Many of the historic homes have been renovated and restored, and the neighborhood has become increasingly popular with families and young professionals.
