About Des Moines
Des Moines was founded in the 1850s, and its name comes from Fort Des Moines, which was a military post established during the Civil War. In the early days, the city was primarily a farming and fishing community.
In the early 1900s, real estate developers began to see the potential in the area and started building homes, hotels, and other amenities to attract tourists and new residents. One of the earliest developments was the Des Moines Beach Park, which was established in 1906 and quickly became a popular destination for people from Seattle and other nearby cities.
During the 1920s and 1930s, Des Moines experienced a boom in real estate development. Many new neighborhoods were established, and the city’s population grew rapidly. Some of the most significant developments during this time included the Zenith Park and Zenith Heights neighborhoods, which were built by Zenith Development Company.
In the 1950s, the construction of the nearby Sea-Tac Airport led to increased interest in Des Moines real estate. Many new businesses opened in the city, and more homes were built to accommodate the growing population.
Throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Des Moines continued to grow and develop. In the 1970s and 1980s, the city focused on revitalizing its downtown area, with new commercial and residential developments.
In recent years, Des Moines has continued to be a popular destination for real estate investment. The city’s location near Seattle and the airport, as well as its waterfront location and mild climate, make it an attractive place to live and work.
Today, Des Moines is a vibrant community with a mix of residential and commercial real estate. The city is home to a variety of housing options, from historic homes to modern condominiums, and there are plenty of opportunities for new development and investment.
